Concrete Countertops: work very well outside and they give you unlimited choices for colors, but they don’t wear as well as the Granite countertops, and the concrete can fade with a lot of direct sunlight, so stay with lighter colors and they’ll stay cooler too.

Marble Countertops: are beautiful and very durable for outside use, and can take anything Mother Nature has to offer, and is very easy to clean and maintain, just like the granite.

Tile Countertops: can work well and their very affordable, but we don’t like the grout lines that are a constant maintenance issue, and clean up is more of a chore because the grout lines will hold food and dirt in them.

Corian Countertops: Don’t work well outside, they fade and stain and are just not intended for outdoor use.

Outdoor Kitchen Designs involve more than the placement of the grill, and seating for your guest; you need a well thought out design, that makes the best use of existing landscaping, hardscapes. We’re going to be talking a lot about design and all the other aspects of a great outdoor kitchen for the next few months, so we’ll discuss some of the high points today, and we’ll go into each of these areas in depth in future articles.

The location of your Outdoor Kitchen is very Important

1. Privacy is great, but if you have a great view of the mountains, don’t hide your outdoor kitchen in the corner of your yard or behind a wall, there other ways to create privacy and still enjoy the beautiful vistas many of us have.

2. Outdoor Kitchens and swimming pools don't mix; you don’t want your food wet, and you don’t need water splashing on electrical appliances, and your guest while they're eating.

3. If the ground is not level you can do some great things with retaining walls that make for great seating if the walls aren’t too high, and they can add privacy is some cases.
4. Think about the number of guest you usually entertain so you don’t end up with an Outdoor kitchen that’s too small, or to large, this will save you a lot of time and money in many cases.
Design your outdoor kitchen to compliment the architecture of your home.

1. There’s nothing wrong with a “tiki Hut theme” but it can look a little out of place if your home is “Country French” or a “Manor house with Pillars” so the theme is important here, so make sure to take the exterior design of your home and landscaping into consideration.
2. Existing pool decks and patios work great for outdoor kitchens, but if you need to add on some new deck area, make sure to match your existing deck; you don’t want your outdoor kitchen area to look like a bolt on; it needs to co-exist with the rest of your home.
3. If you’re using stone countertops, wood cabinets, and stone veneers which are beautiful on outdoor kitchens, once again make sure to consider your existing home; we’re not saying you have to match it exactly, but you don’t want this area to look like it came from outer space either.

Think about weather and the change of seasons right now!

1. Entertaining your family and guest in your new outdoor kitchen should be relaxing and convenient; you don’t want everyone to feel like there in an episode of “Survivor” while they’re trying to relax and eat your great meal outside.
2. Shade is always, important so consider awnings, umbrellas, and pergolas, for the summer months, and if you’re going all out you can add a gorgeous “Outdoor Fire Place” or a “Fire Pit” to keep warm in the colder months, there no reason you can’t use your outdoor kitchen year round with a little planning, and keeping food dry in case it starts raining is always a consideration.

Lighting is very important for the cook and the guest!

1. Lighting your outdoor kitchen is just as important as lighting the kitchen inside your home; this will take some planning because you’ll need to be able to see after dark if you’re preparing a meal.
2. The lighting in the area where you’ll be eating is just as important, because there’s a balance between the lighting needed to prep food, and creating softer lights in the area where you’ll be relaxing and eating, so no flood lights here folks, you want to create just the right mood and not attract every bug within a mile of your outdoor kitchen.
3. You should also consider lighting on paths, and walkways for you and your guest that will be going back and forth to the house during the evening.

Traffic patterns are especially important for Outdoor Kitchens.

1. Your outdoor kitchen is a like a room on the outside of your house, so don’t forget about how people will move from one area to another, because you’ll have people relaxing, swimming if you have a pool, cooking and preparing food, and hanging out just like the kitchen on the inside of your house. .
2. With a good design, you and your guest should all be able to interact without having to shout to be heard, or be tripping over one another, and make sure the most important person “you” doesn’t get pushed over to a corner away from all the action while you’re cooking and preparing the meal. The Sens-A-Wash has sensors that determine the amount of food left the dishes and will automatically adjust the wash time. There is an Adjustable Top Rack, that is helpful when you have that one item that won’t fit; you can simply remove the top rack to create the height that you need. The HygieneDry System has been certified that it kills 99.9% of bacteria by the National Sanitation Foundation.

The 6 Program Dishwasher consists of heavy, normal, light, rinse only, auto wash and quick wash cycles. The Thermador 6 Program dishwasher also has the additional features just like the 4 Program, but in addition to the Sens-A-Wash, Adjustable Top Rack and HygieneDry the 6 Program has Leak Protection and Power Boost. The Leak Protection has sensors located in the base of the dishwasher that will automatically stop and drain should there be too much water in the base. When running short on time the Power Boost wash cycle is perfect, this quick cycle lets you clean dishes in no time at all.

The 9 Program Dishwasher consists of auto, auto super, auto delicate, party, rinse and hold, extreme, regular, enviro care, and glass care wash cycles.
